In 2002 our chapter created an awareness campaign around the theme "A Face of a Communication Disorder". The campaign was expanded to include the Provincial group and will be used for several years to come.
The goal of the campaign is:
- To put a face to the disorder. By showing pictures of our children we want to pull at the heart strings of the audience. These are real child with real needs and as a community we need to support increase services so that they can be a vital part of society!
- That speech and language problems can be part of many other disorders and syndromes
- Give the audience information about communication disorders and the need for early identification and intervention
- To ask to audience to get involved and contact their MPPs and request mandated Speech & Language services in our schools and increased monies to Preschool Language programs and Community Care Access Centres
PostersWe had our children hand these items out when making presentations to school boards, parents and the public.

We also created a kit that included posters, bookmarks, OAFCCD flyer, a May Parent & Child Activity Calendar, fact sheets on communication disorders and several items from our local Preschool Program Language Express. This kit was sent out to all schools, daycare's and nursery schools in the Smiths Falls area.
Our local chapter is making all our "Face of a Communication Disorder" items available for purchase by other chapters, parents, support groups, Speech Language Pathologists etc. If you are interested please give us a call or email us.
